Class Descriptions

At Monument Pilates we have teachers that focus on both Classical and Contemporary Pilates.

Every instructor bio will explain their certification and teaching style.

We offer a beginner friendly class called Fundamentals and a mixed level class. Read on to learn about those.

Fundamentals Group Class

This beginner class offers a supportive and informative introduction to Pilates. It is designed to teach you the fundamental skills and principles of the Pilates method, with an emphasis on familiarizing yourself with the Mat, Reformer, Tower, and Wunda Chair.

You will learn essential foundational movements that form the basis of the Pilates repertoire, while simultaneously developing crucial body awareness and understanding proper alignment. A key component of this class will be learning how to safely and effectively set up and utilize each piece of equipment, giving you the knowledge and confidence to progress. While not every class will incorporate all apparatus, you'll gain a foundational understanding of how each contributes to the Pilates method. No prior experience is required – just a willingness to learn and connect with your body through movement! Perfect for those new to Pilates or returning after a break.

Mixed Level Group Class

Ready to build on your Pilates foundation? This class is open to anyone who has had some experience on the Pilates equipment and has a working understanding of the basic principles.

We teach at a spirited intermediate level, with the instructor providing modifications to make movements more accessible when you need them, or offering challenges for when you're ready to push further.

It's a comprehensive full-body workout where the tempo is faster with quick transitions and less breaks—you'll definitely keep moving! Students should be comfortable and starting to be able to set up the equipment for their own modifications, allowing for a smooth and efficient class flow.

To get the most out of this class: You must have completed 5 Fundamental classes before jumping in. If you already have experience from elsewhere and want to skip the Fundamental requirement, just email us at howdy@monumentpilates.com for an Experience Check!

Classical
Pilates

The Classical Method is a comprehensive immersion into Joseph Pilates' original work. This system utilizes the Mat and Reformer in their classical order, alongside supplementary exercises on specialized apparatus like the Tower and Wunda Chair. This approach emphasizes precision, control, and flow, engaging your deep core muscles while lengthening and strengthening the entire body through the integrated use of all apparatus. By adhering to the authentic sequence and exercises developed by Joseph Pilates, you'll cultivate a deep understanding of the work and achieve optimal results in strength, flexibility, and overall well-being. Modifications are provided to accommodate all levels, ensuring everyone can experience the profound benefits of this time-tested discipline.

Contemporary Pilates

The way Monument approaches contemporary Pilates is by offering a comprehensive full-body workout that is deeply informed by the principles and exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. While respecting the core tenets of control, centering, and flow, this method embraces a more flexible approach to the order of exercises and may utilize a variety of Pilates apparatus, including the Reformer, Mat, Tower, and Wunda Chair. You'll experience many familiar movements from the classical repertoire, alongside thoughtfully integrated contemporary variations and modifications. This allows for a dynamic and adaptable practice that can address a wide range of individual needs and fitness goals, promoting core strength, improved posture, enhanced flexibility, and greater body awareness.
